Just because it’s monsooning outside, doesn’t mean your style has to suffer. There are plenty of alternatives to that plastic pancho that will keep you dry while not compromising the outfit it is hiding underneath. The key is finding the perfect rainy wear combination that will bring the sunshine into any grey gloomy day.
The first step is finding that perfect trench, which we all know is not as simple as it sounds. The perfect trench must be in a color that will compliment a variety of outfit options. I suggest a tan, black, olive, or if you’re feeling a little adventurous red, classic and timeless which means you won’t have to shop for a new one next season. Then the question of short vs. long, a stylistic issue, but when dealing with the rain go with long to protect your pants/skirt/dress underneath from getting soaked from the waste down (you’ll be grateful for that extra few inches of fabric after realizing you narrowly escaped an awkward water stain, trust me).
Step two is finding the rain boots (or shoes) of your dreams. Now, again the color and height debates come into question, but this is the area you can have a little fun with. Let this waterproof accessory spice up your outfit in the same way a great pair of pumps would. Designers like Burberry and Hunter have been changing the bland identity of a rain boot by adding options with straps, buckles and even flats.
So do a little investigating, find what fits you and don’t be afraid of a little rain!
