Giambattista Valli Couture Fall 2011
Well ladies, we have reached couture perfection with this one. The Giambattista Valli Couture Fall 2011 collection is absolutely to die for and puts up a strong challenge to the other designers showing in Paris this week. These looks are truly works of art, perfecting the mending of fitted bodices, flying feathers and pops of exuberant color, I just don’t know how it could get better than this.
The attention to detail in this collection is impeccable from the delicate florets beautifully complimented by gold metal belts, to the ostrich feathers that made appearances in various forms throughout the collection. Even the shoes and head pieces were carefully integrated into the overall motif of the show with sleek lines and colorful rosettes detailing each accessory to flow with its respective look. The intricate nature of the clothing takes the gowns, cocktail dresses, capes and coats to an over the top, yet glamorously controlled level of couture heaven.
And let’s talk about the exquisite gowns that walked down the runway in vivid pinks, reds, classic black and white and the ever so fun animal and floral prints. The flowing designs embody so much movement, all anchored at the waist with cinching of some sort that demonstrates the correct way a gown should look. The layered ruffle looks along with the multi-tiered bubble designs shout fun with a hint of sophistication only acquired through brilliant design.
I really cannot say enough about this collection, it oozes couture. Between the ostrich feather gown draped in a lace vail and the majorly upgraded version of a skirt and blouse, Valli has proved himself to be a name in the couture world that will not be going anywhere soon. I can happily say these gowns will be cat walking in my dreams until his next collection.

Get The Right Animal Print Look
We all know that animal prints are one thing that can either be very right or very wrong depending on how you wear it. I will be the first to say that I gave up on the thought that leopard print could ever be done right, but I will also be the first to say I was very wrong. And now, unless it’s in the form of a tacky pleather pant, I am a full fledged supported of the animal print upswing.

With so many options to choose from, the animal print trend is most certainly not limited to the traditional leopard print. Explore what is out there beyond the feline and find a world of snake skin, cheetah (although I don’t totally see how this differs from a leopard), cobra, zebra (maybe keep your distance from zebras), and other jungle animals that have given inspiration to designers everywhere. Successful animal prints are popping up on Jeffrey Campbell platforms, sheer dresses, blouses, and even denim, which the jury is still out on those but if you can wear them and rock them then more power to you. Animal prints are a great way to add a little diversity to a neutral outfit, and also makes a great layering piece. So grab a snakeskin bag, a leopard print dress and maybe a leather jacket with a slight hint of print (not to wear all at once unless you’re going on safari) and make this winter a little wilder than before.
Here are a few options from ASOS animal print collection to inspire you to work the theme into your wardrobe in different ways.

Designer Joshua Hall is no exception to this. His Spring Summer fashion film, Evolution is a dark flashing portrayal of his latest collection, creating an experience to accompany the clothing.
The idea of the different looks morphing into the next makes this collection appear more cohesive than it ever could have even on the runway. Using new technology like viral videos enables designers like the Australian native to transcend the limits of a static runway and elevate their designs to a new level accompanied by special effects, music and Internet hype.

Get The Look with Mineral Pendants
Strolling through the Bondi Markets last weekend, I fell in love with a raw mineral pendant on a long vintage gold link chain, it looked like a big chunk of vivid green, perfect for layering with the other vintage chains I’ve been collecting. But just my luck, another eager shopper snatched it up before I could even try it on. So I did a little exploring and found some great mineral pendants online at Urban Outfitters, and let me tell you, act quick before they’re gone like my market heartbreak.
The great thing about mineral jewelry is the texture and character it adds to an ensemble. With the hard curves and crevices that come with a raw stone, not only do you get the feeling of having a one of a kind piece (even if it’s mass produced some of the nooks and crannies have to be different), but you get an earthy flair without diving into the land of hippies. It is a stylish accessory that flirts between the casual and cocktail lines. You can find just about any variation of this look if you search around enough, from large dull pieces to smaller bright pieces, all of which look great when layering a few different necklaces or when paired with a chunky ring or two.
Multicolored stones like this one come with a little splash of drama, changing from dark deep purple to a vivid blue when it catches the light. A piece like this from Urban Outfitters would be a great way to dress up a classic t shirt for a day of running errands or going to class.
Then if you’re looking to mix up the shape a little, you can go for a flatter pendant like one of these, also from Urban Outfitters. These wide designs would look great with a maxi or midi skirt for a little bit of a boho/festival feel.
Pendants like these are super easy to find at different markets and vintage stores. The key to finding it at a place like that is remembering you make it work for you, so don’t pay much attention to the chain, you can always replace it with one that suits you. Focus on finding a piece that catches your eye and you’ll never look back.

Limedrop Nautical Rope Jewellery
The nautical trend is one that has exploded in the past few seasons, bringing us striped shirts, boat shoes, and cropped pants. Well now Australian design house Limedrop is adding to that list of nautical pieces with their playful rope necklaces and bracelets. These accessories offer an alternative to the metal ones that we see and wear everyday.Try pairing the nautical rope jewellery with a striped crop top and pleated maxi skirt for a little take on the traditional nautical look, or grab a white rope necklace and top of your black blazer and silk blouse combo. Both designs are adjustable so you can either wear it long and layer it with a few other necklaces, or pull it short and make it the star of the show. The bracelets also play wonderfully into the budding return of the friendship bracelet, with a perfect size for layering with other funky flair on your wrist.
Oscar de la Renta Fall 2012 Campaign Video
Oscar de la Renta’s Fall Campaign 2012 Video featuring Karlie Klossdisplays the upcoming collection in a realm of perfect contradiction. Pairing thigh high latex in multiple colors with the classic elegance of a tweed suit and cocktail look, the contrast only makes the high fashion feeling pop more. Shot by Craig McDean in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the camera follows the model as she transforms from one outfit to the next, all while walking casually down the block.
Take a look and tell me the vast difference between the luxurious evening gown and the sexual thigh hugging wraps doesn’t make this video more interesting.

Emily Current and Meritt Elliott Collaborate with Kate Spade
Los Angeles stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott are now launching a collaboration line of purses with designer Kate Spade, and let me tell you, the fusion of styles is creating a beyond fabulous result. The collection of leather bags, called “Westward” for the inspiration of a bicoastal road trip, is composed of versatile shapes and sizes that hold just about anything their consumer wants to put in it. The bags are practical and relaxed with just a hint of femininity and modernity.
“I think that was what was so exciting about this project. We have such strong branding and aesthetics and we loved how consistent and directional Kate Spade is. They loved our west coast/Americana/vintage influences. We were able to play off of each other.” Emily told Fashionista.com when asked how they combined their two drastically different design aesthetics. And play off each other they did. The beauty behind the bags is that they appeal to a wide variety of women, instead of pigeonholing into one specific type.
Longtime admirers of the Kate Spade brand, Merritt also told Fashionista.com “We’ve been fans of Kate Spade since our youth and we’ve always associated their iconic structured lady like bags with the Kate Spade look. We looked through their archives and wanted to keep the essence of bag but added more whimsical boyish rough and tumble elements. They’re not as refined–more laid back.” This editing of the classic Kate Spade look pays off with the use of different leather textures, patterns and colors, creating a collection of everyday bags for the everyday American woman. With bags varying between smaller shoulder bags to mini duffels, this is one collection that has something for whatever you’re looking for.
