Get the Look with Mixed Prints

Looking for a way to diversify your wardrobe without adding a ton of new pieces? Try mixing things already in your closet to create a new interesting multi-print look. More and more runway collections are featuring bold combinations of contrasting prints; Chris Benz, Tory Burch and Marc Jacobs all sent mixed prints down the runways as a part of their Resort 2011 collections.

Getting this look isn’t as hard as it seems, considering there are no real rules for mixing contrasting prints, but here are some tips for getting a successful start. Try picking prints in colors that compliment each other (look at a colour wheel for an idea of what colours compliment each other, but again with such a sporadic look it’s hard to pin down a definite rule for this one). Mix prints of different sizes, for instance if you’re taking a small animal print, throw a large floral print or maybe a stripe with it to complete the look. The biggest key to this look is to just have fun with it. Try using button downs as jackets and dresses as a basic jumping off point.
